Join us for a Zero-Waste Iftar on Tuesday, 11 March, at 6PM, followed by iftar!
Gather with Green Muslims, Green Ramadan, Muslim Climate Watch, and Green ICCP for reflections on what it means to be stewards of the Earth in Ramadan & beyond.
More than 20 people gathered to sight the hilal of Ramadan on a cool Friday evening.
Clear skies gave a perfect view of a slim crescent low in the horizon shortly after maghrib. Mercury and Venus were also shining brightly nearby.
We even got a visit from security when someone reported a rowdy group only to find out that it was a bunch of Muslims getting excited about a cresent moon.
Ramadan Mubarak, dear Muslims. We made it!
May Allah allow us closer to His presence, increase our love of His messenger ﷺ, and deepen our connection to His books of revelation and nature.
Come join us on Friday, 28 February at 5:45PM, as we attempt to sight the hilal of Ramadan inshaAllah.
We’ll meet just before maghrib to locate where the sun has set (which gives us an indication of where the hilal can be found).
Next, we’ll pray maghrib immediately when it comes in, so bring your wudhu and a prayer rug.
Then, we’ll learn how to sight the hilal and wait for Allah’s decree.
A note on moon visibility:
On 28 February, the moon should be visible with the naked eye in much of North America, all of Central America, and in the northern part of South America.
On 1 March, the moon can be seen easily in most of the world.
He is the One Who made the sun a radiant source and the moon a reflected light, with precisely ordained phases, so that you may know the number of years and calculation ˹of time˺. Allah did not create all this except for a purpose. He makes the signs clear for people of knowledge.
