Forty Green Hadith Now Available in Indonesian!

In anticipation of Ramadan, we’re excited to share that Forty Green Hadith is now available in Indonesian!

There are more Muslims in Indonesia than in Egypt or even Pakistan. About 13% of the world’s Muslims live in Indonesia and more than 85% of Indonesia’s population is Muslim. Indonesia’s rainforests, coasts and marine areas support an immense biodiversity of animal and plant life. Muslim Indonesians have a long and fruitful history of mining their faith tradition to address environmental challenges and protect both people and the planet.

We’re so grateful to all involved in bringing a fresh breath to Forty Green Hadith in this new translation!

As the season shifts from summer to fall, what can we learn from Allah’s signs in nature on how to mindfully respond to change? The global pandemic and recent extreme weather events have likely reshaped the way we react to change.

The rhythm of the seasons cycle through our lives, but we experience them differently every time because we are different.

Allah provides so much abundance at the same time that animals are gathering sustenance to prepare for colder and darker times. Other animals are following Allah-given instincts to journey toward warmer climates. Plants are slowing down photosynthesis which reveals the diverse and vibrant colors in their leaves. Trees are also dropping leaves to protect themselves from freezing temperatures and the weight of snowfall.

Rather than resisting change, how can we demonstrate trust in Allah’s provision in the next season of our lives? Do we prepare by gathering resources, migrating to new environments, or slowing our pace and letting go of unnecessary baggage?

The change in seasons is an opportunity to reflect. We can appreciate that Allah has complete control of the seasons (and everything else) and are gently invited with the milder temperatures and cooler breezes of fall to increase our taqwa (god-consciousness) and tawakkul (reliance) on Allah alone. The scholars say that the change in seasons testifies to the might, ability, knowledge, wisdom, will and mercy of our Creator. To paraphrase the Prophet (saws): Woe unto those who see the signs of Allah in nature but fail to contemplate them.

“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding – Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], “Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.” – Ali Imran 3:190-191
